With demand far exceeding supply at his single-suite one hotel in Siem Reap’s old market area, American owner Martin Dishman decided to quadruple his inventory, opening this three-room lodging in the shop house next door. The intimate property is an altar to local artists, and each room is unique. In the sun-filled Saffron room, paintings by Siem Reap based Filipino artist Loven Ramos line the walls above a teak platform bed and comfy, golden-hued sofas, there’s also a Bose iPod docking station, Wi-Fi, a powerful rain shower, and a balcony perched above the street’s bustling bar scene, double-glazed windows ensure that the clamor remains outside.
Upstairs in the larger Bamboo Suite, which includes a private rooftop terrace, Khmer artist Sopheap Pich’s bent bamboo sculptures seem to float around you, while the Sepia Room showcases John McDermott’s otherworldly photographs of the Angkor temple complex. Don’t leave without sampling the exotic tapas-style fare at AHA, the hotel’s hip restaurant, the green-mango salad with dried snake is particularly memorable.
