Kilimanjaro National Park

The highest mountain (5895 m) on the black continent with a lot of mystery is the most beautiful in the east side of Africa. Kilimanjaro National Park lies right in the middle, which is at an altitude of 2700 meters and is surrounded by three high plains; Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. Kilimanjaro National Park is part of the town of Moshi, south of Tanzania, one hour drive from Kilimanjaro International Airport. Once opened to the public, UNESCO declared this national park as one of the World Heritage Site in 1987.

The experience of watching live exotic animals in their natural habitat would not be forgotten. African elephants, leopards, buffalo, hippos, and so many rare bird species to be residents of this national park. Camping with a series of other activities, like hiking or trout fishing with the family will train you and your family live in the open. The best time to visit is in January, February, and September. In July and August, the temperature will feel cooler. Huts and camping sites for tourists are available at the Mandara, Horombo, and Kibo. Rates range from $40 per day and per person including food. More comfortable accommodation is also available at several hotels and camping sites outside of national parks, such as the village of Marangu and Moshi. During the activities in this national park, visitors can be accompanied by porters, cooks and guides. Although most guides speak English, you should equip yourself with a simple conversation in Swahili language to facilitate communication during your stay in this national park.

This National Park is about 90 km from Kilimanjaro International Airport and can be reached by taxi or rent a car from the airport. Remind all family members to prepare your stamina before you plunge into this African wilderness. Check your hiking gear, prepare practical medicine. Bring a lithium battery for the camera, iPod or MP3 player. Remember, you can not recharge the battery while in the open air.
